Can my apple tree pollinate some new pear trees?

Question:

I want to buy a new pear tree for my garden. Will my existing apple tree help to pollinate it?

Asked by: Cindy from Peckham, 02-Nov-2024

Answer:

Hi Cindy, the short answer is no - because apple trees can only pollinate other apple trees. So you will either need to buy a self-fertile pear variety, like Conference or Williams, or buy two different but compatible pear trees which will pollinate each other. Have you checked in nearby gardens to see if any neighbours have pear trees, because that might help.
