Do newly-planted fruit trees need watering over the winter?

Question:

Thanks for the Bramley tree, which is now planted. One question I did have was regarding watering. I have done the initial watering in following planting. Would I need to continue watering through February or just water again from Spring onwards when the weather warms?

Answer:

That's a good question. Once the tree is planted you won't need to do any more watering over the winter because it is dormant. However once it starts to wake up in the spring it will need regular watering, even if the weather is overcast, and especially if it is sunny.
