Why isn't my new fruit tree showing any signs of life?

Question:

Why isn't my new fruit tree showing any signs of life? It is spring and all the other plants in my garden are showing buds and shoots.

Asked by: James from Sussex, 27-Mar-2017

Answer:

A newly-planted fruit-tree will not respond as quickly to the first signs of spring as established plants, so do not be worried if your new tree appears to be doing nothing whilst other plants are starting to grow. It will soon catch up. The main thing to look for is the buds near the top of the tree starting to swell. If in doubt, send us a photo of the top part of the tree and we will advise.
