Buccaneer walnut trees

Juglans regia
Buccaneer walnuts
  • Picking season: Mid
  • Self-fertility: Self-fertile

Along with Broadview, Buccaneer is one of the best Walnuts for the English climate. Cropping is heavier than Broadview, but the nuts are better suited to cooking and pickling. (For pickling, pick the nuts when young in mid-summer before the shell has fully-formed).

Walnuts grown in the cool climate of the UK are not suitable for drying, and should be eaten fresh or preserved within a few weeks of harvesting.
