Growing and Training

Franquette is not self-fertile, and should be planted with a compatible pollinator variety such as Broadview.

Franquette is one of the more vigorous Walnut varieties and will reach a height of 9m - 12m / 30ft - 40ft after 20 years or so on good soil. The trees would attain the upper end of that scale when grown in warmer continental climates. Mature size with walnut trees is quite dependent on the soil and climate.

In addition, all our trees are certified under the Plant Healthy scheme, supervised by the Plant Health Alliance. Other stakeholders include Defra and the RHS.
